Discussions are underway between Zimbabwe and NPCI International Payments Ltd to develop a real-time payments system. The system would be based on the technology behind India's Unified Payments Interface. A domestic platform would be created, connecting banks, fintech companies, and other payment providers, allowing for instant transactions.

The negotiations may conclude by October 31, according to the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Governor. The proposed platform would provide a common infrastructure for transactions to be processed instantly. Further details on the discussions and the proposed system are available.

The project aims to create Zimbabwe's own instant-payment infrastructure, distinct from overseas UPI acceptance used by Indian travelers.
