A "zero-tolerance" drive has been launched against illegal advertisements. Between January and September 2026, a total of 40,172 illegal ads were removed, with 19,409 being political and 14,133 religious in nature. Commercial advertisements accounted for the remaining portion. The majority of the removed materials were banners, with over 28,000 taken down.

The removal of these advertisements also led to 176 cases being filed and 277 complaints lodged with police. However, only two cases resulted in formal police complaints being registered. Further details on the crackdown and its impact are available.

The drive is aimed at reducing visual pollution, with political and religious publicity making up over 83% of the total removed advertisements.
