Following directions from a high court, a civic body has developed a mechanism for handling Plaster of Paris Ganpati idols after immersion. The plan includes retrieval, safe storage, scientific processing, and reuse of the idols. A significant amount of material, approximately 2,850 metric tonnes, is expected to be processed.

The retrieval process will be carried out within 24 hours of immersion, with personnel and equipment deployed for the operation. The idols will be transported to a designated location for further processing.

Further details on the implementation of this mechanism are available, including the role of ward assistant commissioners and the use of specific equipment.
